Villa Amatista was born from a simple idea: to recapture the essence of Mediterranean architecture from a contemporary perspective.

The home is designed on a single level to foster a seamless connection between the interior and exterior. Life doesn’t take place solely inside the house; it extends to the porches, terraces, pool, and garden.

Each space has been designed to allow you to enjoy the climate, the light, and the scenery all year round.

Single-story architecture

The entire home is laid out on a single level.

The absence of level changes allows for smooth movement, improves accessibility, and fosters a seamless connection between all the rooms.

The architecture recedes into the background, allowing the experience of living there to be simple, comfortable, and natural.

The porch as the main living space

At Villa Amatista, the porch isn’t just a transitional space. It’s another room in the house.

It provides shade from the sun during the summer, extends the living room into the garden, and turns the outdoors into a livable space for much of the year.

Mediterranean architecture has always recognized that shade is an integral part of a home.

This project revisits that idea.

Mediterranean light

The orientation of the home and the open facades allow natural light to fill every room from early morning until sunset.

The large windows visually connect all the spaces to the garden, while overhangs and pergolas control the amount of sunlight to ensure thermal comfort without sacrificing natural light.

Here, the light does not illuminate the architecture.

Continuity Between Interior and Exterior

Large-format windows and doors blur the boundaries between the living room, dining room, kitchen, and patios.

The same materials continue from the interior to the exterior, reinforcing the sense of spaciousness and continuity.

The pool becomes the focal point of the home, and the garden becomes part of the living space.
